A Meditation for the New Year Click here. Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. [Isaiah 60:1] Blessing by Jan Richardson From all that is broken, let there be beauty. From what is torn, jagged, ripped, frayed, let there be not just mendings but meetings unimagined. May the God in whom nothing is wasted gather up every scrap, every shred and shard, and make of them new paths, doorways, worlds. We pray this even as we ponder the gift of your Son whom we ingest as bread and wine, and tasting, find ourselves forgiven and renewed. A Meditation for Christmas Click here. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness – on them light has shined. [Isaiah 7:2] I Will Light Candles this Christmas By Howard Thurman I will light Candles this Christmas, Candles of joy despite all the sadness, Candles of hope where despair keeps watch, Candles of courage for fears ever present, Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days, Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens, Candles of love to inspire all my living, Candles that will burn all year long. When the song of the angels is stilled, When the star in the sky is gone, When the kings and princes are home, When the shepherds are back with their flock, The work of Christmas begins: To find the lost, To heal the broken, To feed the hungry, To release the prisoner, To rebuild the nations, To bring peace among others, To make music in the heart. In this season of joy and love, many struggle with grief and loneliness. This is especially true during the pandemic. Blue Christmas is a quiet, meditative service of music, prayers, and readings for comfort and peace. We remember times of joy and we are sustained by hope and grace in the face of loss. Together, offer our sorrow and our hope to God for healing and transformation. We share the gift of knowing that we are not alone. The Episcopal churches in the Worcester Corridor are joining to offer a service on Zoom that is based on the service that you have offered at Trinity for many years. The service will be offered three times. Our own Dave Clinkman will be one of the musicians, and Mary Johnson will be one of the readers. Blue Christmas Service The Episcopal churches in the Worcester Corridor are joining to offer a service on Zoom that is based on the service that you have offered at Trinity for many years. The service will be offered three times. Our own Dave Clinkman will be one of the musicians, and Mary Johnson will be one of the readers. For many people, the Christmas season brings complicated feelings. Thank you - Trinity Mission Committee Family Advent Activity Basket Advent—the 4 weeks before Christmas--is one of the most important and meaningful seasons of our liturgical year. This year we are beginning a new tradition for observing Advent with prayers, activities, and crafts at home. Sarah Prevelige is leading this initiative. What is an Advent basket? It's a basket of four activities to do as a family. These include making your Advent wreath, a homemade special Advent Calendar, and fun DIY crafts. These crafts are unlike the usual kid crafts and require big kid or adult assistance for gluing, working with wood, candle making, painting, following directions, and patience. (Extra "goodies" and coloring pages may be included for families with young children.) How do we know what to do? Each activity will be separately wrapped and numbered (no peeking). A list of additional supplies you may need will be included. Video instructions for each activity with examples and step-by-step guidance will be sent separately by email. All you have to do is carve out 30-45 minutes to sit as a family to construct, craft, laugh, and make memories as you are preparing for Christmas. Some may want to do them at the start of Advent, others may want to do one each Sunday/ weekend through advent as a way to start the weeks leading up to Christmas. Are you interested? If so, the important part is HOW you sign up. It is important that we know how many in your family will be involved in order to make sure we have enough for everyone. It will also be important to include the ages of the young members of your family as we do have extra things to include for families with elementary school-aged children or older teens. Please email Sarah Prevelige by this Friday November 20th with the following information. 1. Your family name (ex The Smith Family) 2. The number of adults over the age of 18 participating (ex. 2 adults) 3. Ages of all children participating (ex. Ages 3, 7, 11) 4. Any special considerations (allergies to common craft supplies, no access to computer to play the instruction videos, etc) 5. Whether you prefer to pick-up your Advent basket or have it delivered (we will follow-up with the coordinating of this after the 20th). Can you only participate if you have kids? No, every family can participate whether you have kids or not! These activities are appropriate for all and will produce advent and Christmas related items that you can use/enjoy time and time again. So reach out to Sarah Prevelige: drprevelige@gmail.com Creation Care Tip of the Week: Don’t shop till you drop Do I need it? Can it be recycled? Is there a more environmentally friendly option? [Psalm 106.1] Dear brothers and sisters of Trinity, We are living through unusual times, times of challenge, but also times in which so many have shown levels of courage and compassion that we had not imagined would ever be needed. In this uncertainty, we have also seen God at work in those who have worked so hard as healthcare providers and frontline workers, first responders and teachers, as truckers and others. For them, and for the belief that God will protect us in the end, we are grateful. If you can, we humbly ask that you consider increasing your pledge. This is not the time to ask for everything we want, but to be grateful for everything we have. You may mail your pledge to Trinity in the stamped, self-addressed envelope that was included in the Stewardship mailing, or you may pledge on the website: https://www.trinitychurchmilford.org/2021-pledge Go, be healing to God's people; seek and share the saving call. Be the touch of Christ for others, be the voice of Christ for all. A woman was so godly that even the angels rejoiced at the sight of her. She had no notion that she was holy. She just lived an ordinary life, radiating goodness without trying. Her holiness lay in the fact that she forgot each person’s past and looked at them as they were now, and she looked beyond each person’s appearance to the very center of their being, where they were innocent and blameless and too ignorant to know what they were doing. One day, an angel came to her and said, “I have been sent to you by God. Ask for anything you wish, and it will be given to you. Would you like the gift of healing?” “No”, said the woman, “I’d rather God did the healing himself.” “Would you like to bring sinners back to the path of righteousness?” “No,” she said, “it is not for me to touch human hearts. That is the work of angels.” “Would you like to be such a model of virtue that people will be drawn to imitate you?” “No,” she said, “for that would make me the center of attention.” “What then, do you wish for?” ask the angel. “The grace of God. Having that, I have all I desire,” she said “No, you must ask for some miracle,” said the angel, “or one will be forced on you.” “Well, then I shall ask for this: let good be done through me without my being aware of it.” So it was decreed that the holy woman’s shadow would be endowed with healing properties whenever it fell behind her. So everywhere her shadow fell--provided she had her back to it—the sick were healed, fountains sprang to life, and color returned to the faces of those who were weighed down by life’s sorrow. But the woman knew nothing of this because the attention of people was so centered on the shadow that they forgot about her. And so her wish that good be done through her without calling attention to herself was abundantly fulfilled.[1] On All Saints Sunday we walk in the life-giving shadow of the people whose lives we have shared – who have guided us, listened to us, and recognized our goodness. On All Saints Sunday we remember that we are not alone. We affirm that when we share lives—no matter how brief—those lives are woven into our own—without end. On All Saints’ Sunday we don’t just remember people who are no longer with us-- We honor our ongoing relationship with them. We thank God for allowing us to share in their lives. We promise to walk in their shadows, and to trust that God will use our shadows to bring healing and peace to the world. May our shadows be long and broad. [1] Adapted from Anthony De Mello, Taking Flight (New York: Doubleday, 1988), pp. 110-111. Go, be healing to God's people; seek and share the saving call. Be the touch of Christ for others, be the voice of Christ for all. Lives are broken all around you, and Christ has no hands but yours; hold in them the ones who suffer so Christ's healing love endures. -Martin Willett DAYLIGHTSAVINGS TIME ENDS ON SATURDAY EVENING WE TURN BACK OUR CLOCKS AN HOUR!
