Project Detail

The Daily Bread Food Pantry

Trinity Church was one of the six churches who joined together to found the Daily Bread Food Pantry in 1991. The Pantry is run totally by volunteers and is funded by donations of food and money from local churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals.

Food can be left in baskets at the back of the Church each Sunday, or it can be taken directly to the Pantry on Monday evenings between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Trinity has a rotating list of volunteers who deliver the food every Monday. Volunteers also help pack the food for clients or supervise on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.

The Pantry is always looking for new people to help. Here is a list of what is needed:

  • Volunteers to help either Tuesday or Thursday morning from 8:30 to 10:00 stocking shelves with food for the clients to pick up that night. This does involve lifting.
  • Volunteers to work at the Pantry either Tuesday or Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 filling bags for the clients. This is on a rotating schedule and is never more than once a month.
  • Volunteers to be on a substitute driver list. You would be someone to call in a pinch when we know there is food to pick up at the Food Bank in Shrewsbury. The Pantry has a new cargo van. This would be on a week day morning and involves lifting. They always send two people.
  • Volunteers that could go with the driver to help with the loading and unloading of food at the Food Bank in Shrewsbury. This again would be on a weekday morning and involves lifting.
  • Volunteers to be on a substitute driver list to help with deliveries to Homebound clients in Milford. We have four drivers for this, but subs are periodically needed. This is only once a month and generally involves delivering to 4 or 5 people. It is always the second Thursday of the month.
