Last week we mentioned the water buffalo, also known as the 'gentle giant'. This week, it is the heifer, which is a young, female cow. We all know that cows give milk, which provides nutrition. Families that receive a heifer will have milk to drink and can sell any extra milk they have, which enables them to boost their income. A heifer also provides fertilizer, which helps with a better crop yield and in turn results in food for families. Those that receive a heifer are provided education and training on taking care of the animal, which benefits both the family and the heifer herself. If the heifer has off spring, they are passed on to other families in the community, so the entire community benefits. One female cow can help bring stability to so many people struggling with hunger issues, something to think about the next time you reach for a glass of milk.
